Evening and Morning
Stan Galloway
In our capitalistic mindset,
work is always the beginning,
our day begins with work,
our day is defined by our work,
and our rewards are derived
from our work.
So why did the first recorded day of time,
in a world without a sun,
begin with evening?
Have we lost some message
that the twilight is the real beginning
of every day,
that the rest preceding work
is really where the day begins?
I like the thought.
And so this evening
when I get home from the office,
I’ll begin a new day
as the sun goes down.
